It’s confirmed – American cable network SyFy announced this week that the British SF cult classic Blake’s 7 is being developed into a new series by producer Marc Rosen and Georgeville Television.
Terry Nation’s original BBC series, which ran for four seasons from 1978 to 1982, followed the adventures of escaped convict Roj Blake and his band of misfit renegades who battled the evil Terran Federation. The show was famous for its rich characters, witty scripts, and hilariously low-budget special effects.
SyFy’s Blake’s 7 will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI) and directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Green Lantern). We expect the special effects will outshine the original series’, but it remains to be seen if the warmth and charm of Terry Nation’s characters can be captured by a new cast.
