It’s official! The Superman TV prequel “Krypton” has officially been ordered a full first season by SyFy. “Krypton” tells the story of the House of El, taking place two generations before Superman was born. It highlights the struggles and adventures of the famous superhero’s grandfather as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
This news comes after SyFy announced it’s new look and logo and a news division called SyFy Wire. The network aims to work on capturing a solid fanbase of science fiction, horror, fantasy and comic book shows; and it looks like their first step is kicking off with “Krypton.”
Syfy’s Krypton: Possible Release Date
As the project is a partnership between SyFy and NBC Universal, Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks for NBC Universal Cable Entertainment said that only the pilot has been filmed and that the show is set to begin its production on the rest of the episodes for the first season. No official release has been set for the pilot episode, but his best guess is during the first quarter of 2018.
Does Krypton Connect To The DC Extended Universe?
With the show being a prequel to Superman’s backstory, many DC fans have been wondering about the show’s connection to the DCEU. It’s a logical question, with “Man of Steel” writer and “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” executive producer David S. Goyer being credited as the show’s pilot episode writer, creator and executive producer. A teaser for the show leaked online and has since been removed, but fans noticed the exact same style and tone portrayed in “Man of Steel.”
McCumber then addressed the show’s possible existence in the DCEU. Though McCumber didn’t exactly confirm the connection, he did reveal that the show will “definitely contain other DC comics characters in the Krypton world.”
Since “Krypton” takes place years before Superman, it’s unlikely that any of the main “Justice League” members could appear. The only characters that it could point to are the more spacey ones like Jon J’onzz (Martian Manhunter) and Brainiac.
“Krypton” stars Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon), Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch), Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons), Ann Ogbomo (World War Z), Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness), Wallis Day (Will), Aaron Pierre (Tennison) with Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones).
