Fans of the horror anthology series Channel Zero would sadly have to call it quits for now with the series. Show creator Nick Antosca announced the news on his Instagram on Tuesday. He also confirmed that Channel Zero would be ending with season 4.
“I loved making this show and I would have loved to do more… but I can’t complain too much about doing 4 stories I loved with people who I loved working with” said Antosca. “People like our writers, our actors, our extraordinary crew, the artists who contributed, our editors and post team, our composer Jeff Russo, our team at Syfy and UCP. And especially the four awesome directors, Craig Macneill, Steven Piet, Arkasha Stevenson, and Evan Katz. And before all that, the authors of the original creepypasta stories. Kris Straub, Brian Russell, Kerry Hammond, and Charlotte Bywater.”
Each season of Channel Zero is a standalone six-episode season telling a CreepyPasta tale. Season one premiered with “Candle Cove” back in October 2016, and the last season, titled “Dream Door” aired on October 2018. It ran for six consecutive days and wrapped up on Halloween.
After the second season premiere, a quick order of a third and fourth installment came quickly. However, ScreenRant reports that the show has consistently been one of Syfy’s lowest-rated programs despite abundant critical praise.
In the last part of his message, Antosca said, “I’m deeply grateful for this experience. Especially to everybody who watched and talked about and wrote about the show.” He continued giving a little beacon of hope, saying, “there are stories we didn’t get to tell and creatures you didn’t get to see, but still might.”
