Supergirl And Brainiac Rumored To Be Introduced In Man of Steel 2

UPDATE: Umberto Gonzalez from The Wrap has officially debunked the Supergirl and Brainiac rumors via Twitter.

A rumor on the development of Henry Cavill’s Superman in “Man of Steel 2” has recently surfaced online, and it points to an interesting bit of news: Supergirl and Brainiac is going to be introduced to the DC Extended Universe.

With added attention and longing for more female superheroes in the DCEU (thanks to “Wonder Woman,”)  this rumor comes as an exciting feat especially for fans eager to see Clark team up with his cousin Kara on the big screen.

Will Supergirl and Brainiac Finally Join The DCEU In ‘Man of Steel 2’?

With the DCEU slowly extending their superheroes in the big screen by introducing the other characters of the “Justice League,” it’s still a wonder whether or not Superman will be getting a sequel to his first movie, “Man of Steel.” The Zack Snyder-helmed project helped launch the beginning of DC’s cinematic universe back in 2013. Since then, Cavill appeared in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the second entry to the DCEU. He is now set to show up in both “Justice League” films (the one coming out in November and the sequel sometime 2020).

With the Superman mythos being the heart of the “Justice League,” it seems very likely for “Man of Steel 2” to be pushed alongside the slew of films on the DCEU’s schedule.

An anonymous user posted in 4chan about claims of a discreet development of “Man of Steel 2” happening at the same time with the other DCEU films scheduled for release. The rumor claims that multiple writers (including those from “Watchmen” and the “300,”) were approached to write the screenplay to “Man of Steel 2.” Brainiac is reportedly set to be the villain, with Supergirl also to be introduced.

The TV and Movie Versions

Again, this is only a rumor, and Warner Bros. and DC hasn’t put out an official statement yet. Despite this, it’s also an interesting idea to see Supergirl and Brainiac on the big screen. With Supergirl already enjoying it’s run on The CW, and Brainiac being the main villain of the “Injustice 2” video game, it is very probable that the studio will somehow involve the characters in a film soon.

The “Supergirl” series has been on The CW for 2 season now, with the third expected to be bigger. Given how the movie versions of the DC heroes in The CW are immensely different from their small screen counterparts, it’s very likely that Melissa Benoist won’t be doing the role of Supergirl in the DCEU. Superman has two different actors both in the films and on TV, with Tyler Hoechlin playing the titular superhero on the “Supergirl” series. Brainiac also appeared in an episode of “Supergirl,” as a female Brainiac iteration named Brainiac 8/Indigo.

For now, this news has to be taken with a grain of salt, but expect us to keep an eye out for more developments on “Man of Steel 2.”
