Supergirl 'Crisis On Earth-X' Part 1 Recap: Seeing Double, Fighting Nazis, and More Superhero Leather [SPOILERS]

“Crisis On Earth-X,” The CW’s four-episode superhero crossover, gathers its heroes for a wedding to remember. We have “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “Arrow,” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” for a two-night superhero round-up. But in putting a bunch of superheroes in one room, something is bound to go wrong. In this case, The wedding of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton) are interrupted by Nazis. All of the superheroes band together to take on their most formidable villains yet.

Before the wedding, Iris is panicking like any bride would when their super guests haven’t RSPV’ed yet, even calling Barry while in the middle of a fight with King Shark. We then cut to a montage of their super friends who haven’t confirmed their attendance. In Star City, Oliver (Stephen Amell) is in the midst of a fight with a group of ninjas when Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) asks him whether or not they’re going to the Allen-West wedding, Oliver says that they are. In 1183 England, the Legends are busy taking on some knights and in the midst of the fight, Sara (Caity Lotz) asks the rest of the Legends if they’ve remembered to RSVP’ed to the wedding. Fortunately, they did.
Meanwhile, Kara (Melissa Benoist) is still wondering if she should go. After Supergirl fights off a Dominator, Alex (Chyler Leigh) finds Barry and Iris’ wedding invite. Kara explains that it’s probably best if she doesn’t go to the wedding because she’s not really in the mood to go to a wedding. Alex playfully states it’s a time for them to be sad and deal with their own heartache. Kara then decides to attend the wedding because both need a distraction to find their “mojo” back. It’s a day where every hero can relax and watch two of their friends exchange vows—especially when each superhero has their own issues to deal with such as heartache, separating Firestorm, and awkward hook-ups.

A Break from Saving the World

Everyone gathers for the pre-wedding touch-ups and the wedding rehearsal. Kara hoped it would be a distraction until Barry brings up Mon-El. She tells him that Mon-El is now married to another person. Avoiding a conversation about love, Barry asks Kara to sing for their wedding. During the rehearsal, Joe delivers a teary-eyed speech about Barry and Iris’ relationship. This brings up an awkward conversation between Oliver and Felicity about their relationship. Frustrated, Felicity screams out she doesn’t want to marry him.

The happy occasion serves a distraction for everyone attending. Jax (Franz Drameh) and Stein (Victor Garber) consult Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Wells (Tom Cavanagh) about separating Firestorm. Cisco and Wells reveal they’ve used quarkspheres to come up with a serum that will render the hero’s abilities to use their Firestorm powers. Stein is excited to live a normal life again but Jax isn’t ready to let go of his powers yet. Stein then reworked the serum so that Jax could still have powers—but it would be spider-like powers rather than Firestorm powers. This frustrates Jax, who preferred to have his real powers.
The next day is a perfect day for a wedding. Barry and Iris have a wonderful pre-wedding breakfast in bed while their friends wallow in their troubles—Oliver and Felicity spending the night apart, Alex hooking up with Sara, and Stein and Jax’s separation issues. It’s only Mick (Dominic Purcell) who’s having a lovely morning.

‘Supergirl’ Meets ‘Overgirl’, Her Earth-X Double

The wedding ceremony begins as Kara starts singing and Joe walks Iris down the aisle. But as the pastor asks if someone opposes the wedding, he’s instantly vaporized by Overgirl with her Nazi army. Seriously, these superheroes can’t catch a break! They started evacuating the wedding, leaving the supers behind to save the day. Kara and Oliver face their Earth-X double while everyone deals with the Nazis. Sara and Alex start taking on the Earth-X version of Prometheus. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) turns into Killer Frost teaming up with Mick to take down some of the Nazis.

Meanwhile, Kara and Overgirl start battling in the sky. Kara crashes into the church in the middle of their fight but she was able to get the upper hand and knocks Overgirl out. This causes the Nazis to back down and return to Earth-X. Cisco, unfortunately, was knocked unconscious in the middle of the chaos. Luckily for them, they were able to capture Prometheus-X. The heroes are confused about the wedding crashers and they need answers before things get worse.
In the opening of the episode, we see a glimpse of the dark and eerie shot of Nazi propaganda. At a warehouse, we see Earth-X Arrow fighting and killing off Earth-X Guardian/Jimmy Olsen. It’s still a mystery why Earth-X decided to target Earth-1. But it looks like their mission failed, according to Dark Flash after he met Overgirl and Dark Arrow. Hopefully, Prometheus-X starts talking.
‘Supergirl” started the first arc of the crossover with “Crisis on Earth-X (Part 1),” with part 2 followed by “Arrow.” The crossover continues tomorrow at 8/9c with “The Flash,” before concluding at 9/10c with “Legends of Tomorrow.”
