The hopes of Henry Cavill’s Superman return may have been dashed, but we are getting a new spin on Supergirl in the upcoming Flash movie. We can kind of piece together her origin from the trailer, but here we have a new still of her absorbing the sun on Wayne Manor.

It’s still unclear if this Supergirl (Kara) is an alternate version of Clark Kent or Clark’s cousin Kara Zor El, but her origin in the film definitely draws inspiration from Superman’s Flashpoint story where, instead of growing up on a farm, Superman is held hostage and experimented on by the government. He’s then freed by the Flash, and teams up with him for the final battle.
We don’t know what the future of this Supergirl will be moving forward, but with the Multiverse, maybe she can co-exist with the new Superman that James Gunn and Peter Safran want to introduce to us soon.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The Flash zooms into theaters on June 16.
