'Stranger Things' Season 3 to Include Three New Minor Characters

“Stranger Things” Season 2 introduced new characters to the overall story of the infamous town of Hawkins, Indiana. Some fans welcomed it with open arms; a lot of them, however, took it as a forced way for expanding the narrative. While the hit 80’s Netflix series still focused on its core characters—Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo)—the second season tried to introduce a bunch of new faces, leading us to love and hate them in whichever category you belong to.
One breakout character was Sean Astin’s Bob Newby, who—despite being one of the excellent additions to the show—suffered an untimely end in the hands (or jaws?) of the demodogs. Among the arguably most hated, though, was Kali Prasad (Linnea Berthelsen). Also known as Eight, her take on Eleven’s “sister” didn’t exactly fit well with many fans. And so the question remains: does the introduction of new characters in “Stranger Things” contribute to the overall narrative of the hit show?

That might soon be another point of contention for “Stranger Things” fans as the third season will apparently add three new characters, according to That Hashtag Show.

New cast descriptions for ‘Stranger Things 3.’

Filming for “Stranger Things 3” will officially begin this Spring in Atlanta, and the third season will hit the streaming service sometime in 2019. It’s also confirmed that most of the new characters introduced in season 2 will return to the show. However, according to sources, casting is underway for three recurring guest star roles:
Mayor Larry Kline.” Described as a classic, 80’s style slick politician, “Kline” is described as pathetic and driven only by his own interests. The studio is looking for a male, 40s-60s, to fill the role.
Bruce.” A morally compromised news reporter in his 50s, “Bruce” was described as outwardly sexist, overweight and bedraggled.
Patricia Brown.” “Patricia” seems to be filing the role of the sweet, neighborhood elder. The studio is looking for a woman in her 70s for the role which will see her spending a lot of time tending to her garden and offering her advice to the neighborhood kids. Given the Duffer brothers affinity for subverting expectations, we find ourselves wondering if this sweet old lady might have some connection to the Upside Down; then again, that might be just the type of thing they want us to think we know and she just ends up a sweet old lady!

So far, these are the only confirmed details about the casting call, and no actor was confirmed to be in the running to play the above roles yet. That said, the show seems to be gearing towards more expansion with regards to the story and characters. Again, this move by the show’s creators is a hit or miss; but given the vast anticipation for what’s to come, it might prove to be one that’s hopefully in line with the next chapter.
