Production for the series officially started in early November. 2. Returning Characters Include Eleven, Steve Harrington, Dr. Brenner
Most reports about the next season usually assume that Eleven will return. However, Millie Bobbie Brown’s return to the series to reprise her role as Eleven was only confirmed early November, as reported by TV Line.
Digital Trends also cited that Steve Harrington will be appearing as well, as the actor Joe Keery has been promoted as a series regular. As for the show’s villain, Dr. Brenner, played by Matthew Modine, the report cited that there is a possibility he may make an appearance in the second season, according to the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers.
3. New Characters Revealed So Far
In early November, Sean Astin (“The Hobbit” and “Goonies”) and Paul Reiser (“Aliens”) were named to play roles in season 2. Astin will be playing a high school friend of Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour), while Reiser will be a Department of Energy official Dr. Owens, who is in charge of “cleanup” operations, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Three new young characters will also be introduced. According to Digital Trends, Sadie Sink of “American Odyssey” will play a girl named Max described as a “tough and confident” girl. She will be joined by Dacre Montgomery, as Max’s older brother named Billy. Actress Linnea Berthelsen is also confirmed to play the role of “Roman,” yet another mysterious character connected to what happened in town.
4. A “Sequel” That Happens One Year After Season 1 Events
Rather than a second season that immediately follows the events of the previous one, the show’s creators decided that it will instead “jump a year.” One of the reasons is to take into account the physical changes that are happening to the show’s young cast members. Ross Duffer also said that a one-year gap “opens up more story possibilities.
5. Rumored Release Date
So far, the latest rumored release date says that the new season will be ready by July 2017.
