Probably one of the biggest cultural impacts of the last season of Stranger Things was the popularization of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God),as it was used in a pivotal moment when they had to pull Max (Sadie Sink) out of a nightmare trance.
It’s a pretty pivotal scene in the show, and as it turns out, the song is now following Sink wherever she goes. She shares with The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (around 2:34):
“I was like, in Berlin, in a very tiny café. It was just me and my friend, we’re the only people there. And then, of course, the song starts playing and everyone in the restaurant is kind of like—all the servers are like, ‘Ooh what’s she gonna do?’—like, that’s my cue to go.”
You really have to hand it to Stranger Things, though the series’ inspirations are clear with titles like Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist, the Duffer Brothers have managed to make the show feel original and fresh. I guess it also has something to do with the great characters, who we’ve watched grow over the years.
We don’t know what’s in store for Max in the next season, but hopefully we don’t spend too long with her stuck in the bed with broken bones.
The next season of Stranger Things is set to come out in 2024, but you can catch the first four seasons now streaming on Netflix.
