Stranger Things 4 will be Split into 2 Parts; Season 5 will be the Last

It’s been two years since we got the last season of Stranger Things, and fans can’t wait to come back to the world of Hawkins and the Upside Down. Netflix is set to drop the fourth season this year, and apparently they had to split the season in two because the story took much longer.

Here’s the official announcement:

We also got a message from show creators Matt and Ross Duffer explaining why they had to split the season in two. What’s more, they also confirm that the show is only going to last until the fifth season.

They write:

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Strange Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll soon see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”

Admittedly, the entire run of Stranger Things hasn’t been perfect, but each season has managed to keep audiences engaged and has somehow brought a fresh take when it comes to homages and nostalgia. With so many fans thinking that the third season ending was kind of a cop-out with Hopper’s survival, I can’t wait to see how the Duffers manage to write themselves out of this trope.

Fingers crossed we get a new trailer soon.

The first part of Stranger Things 4 comes out on May 27; the second part hits Netflix on July 1.
