Storm Reid Eyed To Join James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

After her stint on Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time and HBO’s Euphoria, Storm Reid is now being eyed to star in James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad sequel according to The Wrap. Although there is no deal set in place yet, Reid is the strongest contender for the role of Idris Elba’s daughter. Details for the film are being tightly kept under wraps.

What we do know about Gunn’s new project is that it will also be titled Suicide Squad and will hit theaters on August 6, 2021. If a deal pushes through for Reid, she will be joining newcomers Daniela Melchoir, John Cena, and Elba. Though it was initially thought that Elba will be taking over Will Smith’s Deadshot, it was later clarified that he will be playing a new character according to Variety. Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman, on the other hand, will be reprising their roles.

Though the 2016 Suicide Squad film didn’t quite live up to the critics and audiences expectations, it grossed a hefty $746.8 million worldwide. It was directed and written by Bright and Fury director David Ayer. And it was quite the star-studded film with Will Smith, Ezra Miller, Cara Delevigne, and Jay Hernandez headlining along with Robbie and Davis.

The new Suicide Squad was written and is being directed by Gunn. And according to The Wrap, he will have a new take on the DC supervillains who are recruited by the government to do the dirty work not fit for any superhero. Charles Roven and Peter Safran are producing. After Gunn’s issue with Marvel, it seems that he’s doing fine for himself. He just might give hope for the Suicide Squad to redeem itself. And Reid might just be part of the cast that’ll help him to that.

Aside from her Disney stint, Reid also took part in the Best Picture Oscar Winner 12 Years A Slave. And she was also in the Netflix limited series When They See Us. She will star in Universal/ Blumhouse’s upcoming The Invisible Man alongside Elisabeth Moss.
