Stephen King is immensely creeped out by Netflix’s adaptation of “1922,” one of the author’s beloved novellas. It’s the second King adaptation by Netflix this year, with the first one being “Gerald’s Game,” set for release by the end of September.
While “1922” may not be as well-known as the other prominent King titles like “It” and “The Dark Tower,” it’s actually one of the most popular stories from “Full Dark, No Stars,” his 2010 novella collection. “1922” follows the story of Wilfred James, a farmer who conspires to murder his unhappy wife so he can stay on the farm. The brutal act haunts him soon after, as his life slowly falls apart.
Nothing but praise for ‘1922’
Speaking to Yahoo, King made positive comments about the newest Netflix adaptation. he had nothing but praise and appreciation for “1922.” Clearly, it’s something that the author would love for the audiences to see. The one you want to watch for is, Netflix did an adaptation of 1922 from Full Dark, No Stars.” King said, “I think that’s going to be out in October or something, and man, I saw a rough cut of that and it won’t leave my mind. That is super creepy!”
2017 is shaping up to be a very good year for the author, with multiple adaptations of his stories coming out. Aside from “1922,” Andy Muschietti’s “It,” and Universal’s “The Dark Tower,” a number of his stories have reached the small screen this year. “The Mist” recently finished its first season on Spike. “Mr. Mercedes” is currently airing on AT&T’s Audience Network.
King had this to say about the current adaptations of his stories: “It isn’t entirely random. I think some of it had to do with the success Hulu had with 11/22/63. That pushed, I think to some degree, Mr. Mercedes, which is on Audience Network, part of the AT&T Family. They would like to have a kind of showcase that will bring people in and make them aware, “Hey, we’re here.” So that’s part of it. And there’s a huge appetite for material on the streaming services now, so J.J. Abrams doing this show Castle Rock, which is based on some of the stories. But I think some of it is just f–king happened, I don’t know.”
Whatever the case may be, it looks like there will be many Stephen King adaptations to come in the following years.
“1922” hits Netflix October 20th.
