We haven’t even seen season 2 of Starz’s hit take on Neil Gaiman’s American Gods yet, but the show’s future looks bright. Hopes for a potential Season 3 is reportedly very likely, as sources close to the production seem to hint at.
According to Deadline, American Gods season 2 was purposely made to lead up to a third. As the source says, “we didn’t make Season 2 of American Gods not to make a Season 3. It’s a big book.”
That said, Deadline also reports that Starz is on a hunt for a new showrunner for season 3. And it looks like the premium cabler is looking for top-tier individuals to take over the helm of American Gods. Currently, the second season is produced by Gaiman himself, allowing him to have a more hands-on approach to supervising how the show would turn out to be. Jesse Alexander previously held showrunner duties for the show.
Starring Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday and Ricky Whittle as ex-convict Shadow, American Gods follows the story of the two unlikely partners as they take on a series of challenges posed by the New Gods—technology, internet, and the modern age. Shadow is working for Mr. Wednesday, who technically is an incarnation of Odin the All-Father. Wednesday goes on a recruiting run of American manifestations of the Old Gods—whose powers are slowly waning because of the decrease of believers—all in an effort to wage war against the New Gods.
American Gods Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 10th, at 8/7c on Starz.
