2021 gave us an experimental series for Star Wars in the form of Star Wars: Visions, and the anthology series had multiple anime studios submitting their own takes on a galaxy far far away. Now Disney+ is gearing up for a second season, and this time, they’ve expanded the collaborators from anime studios to animation studios all around the world.
Just in, we have a new trailer for Star Wars: Visions Vol. 2, and it’s set to premiere on Disney+ this coming May 4. Check this out:
I’ll admit, I do miss the exclusively anime feel that the first season had, but it’s also exciting to see different animation styles in Visions, including 3D animation as well as Claymation.
Aardman Animations, the studio behind Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit was admittedly the last studio I would expect to make a Star Wars film, but Visions has managed to make it happen, and they’ve even kept to the signature Aardman style that’s apparent in all of their projects.
We don’t know how long Lucasfilm plans to keep Visions running, but as long as there are creative voices in animation that want to contribute to Star Wars, I think we could see a new volume for the series drop every few years; kind of like Netflix with their animated anthology series, Love, Death + Robots.
Watch out for Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions when the whole season drops on May 4. Catch the complete first season now available on Disney+.
