Star Wars: The Acolyte has Already Started Production

Star Wars fans are currently enjoying the ride that is Tony Gilroy’s Andor, but another upcoming Star Wars show has already started rolling cameras.

As reported by Bespin Bulletin, The Acolyte series, starring Amandla Stenberg, has already started shooting at Shinfield Studios, Berkshire. While the recent Star Wars series have been known to utilize the ‘volume’ for their special effects, it’s said that the series had begun shooting on location in a large, outdoor set, with onlookers said to have spotted multiple actors being ushered in and out of trailers.

Besides Stenberg, the show also includes actors Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Jodie Turner Smith (White Noise). Lee is said to be playing the male lead of the show, but the main character remains to be the one played by Stenberg.

We don’t know any specifics of the story, but the show does have the description:

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

If anything, this series will be the first live-action show to take place in the newly-conceived High Republic era—an age-old time before the events of the Prequel Trilogy where the Jedi were at their peak, and the Sith were nothing but a legend.

It’s unclear what direction The Acolyte wants to go, but we should expect Russian Doll showrunner Leslye Headland to have a unique voice when it comes to a franchise like Star Wars.

No release date has been announced for The Acolyte, but fans expect a Disney+ debut sometime in 2023.
