'Star Wars Rebels' Season 4, Episode 12 'Wolves and a Door' Recap: Unraveling Lothal's Mysteries [SPOILERS]

“Star Wars Rebels” is shifting its focus on the Jedi and we get to know more about Lothal and the force surrounding it. On the last episode, Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray) had the task of saving Lothal’s Jedi Temple from the Empire. The Lothal wolves gave him a mysterious tablet to help him on his quest. Meanwhile, a familiar character makes an appearance, informing the Empire about the ramifications of Kanan’s death.

Thanks to the Lothal Wolves, Ezra found purpose after losing his Jedi master. We pick up right we left off, as the Ghost Crew figures out the symbols on the mysterious tablet. Sabine tells Ezra that she can find out what the symbols mean if they were in the Jedi temple. Unfortunately, the rebels are without a ship, and the Jedi momentum is far off north. But that’s not a problem for Ezra. The young Jedi reaches out to the Force and summons the Loth Wolves. It looks like Ezra has formed a special Force centered bond with the wolves, just like Kenan.

Shocked by the wolves, the Ghost Crew weren’t reluctant to hop on their backs with their android Chopper in one of their mouths. With their journey made easy, they vanish into the ground and move through hyper-speed. They appear in the snowy region of the planet. Hera (Vanessa Marshall) questions the wolves’ speed, but Zeb didn’t need an answer because he considers the wolves an excellent ally for the rebels. Ezra tells them the wolves only wants what’s best for Lothal and are bound by the Force, not allegiance. Whatever the reason may be, they arrived safely at the Jedi Temple, but it looks like the Empire beat them to the punch.

Interesting Art Work

It’s clear that the Empire’s involvement with the Jedi Temple is not just another Imperial Project. Sabine notices that the Imperials have uncovered a great deal of artwork. The Ghost Crew needed disguises to get through. Lucky for them, they spot two Imperial Biker Scouts. Chopper uses a holographic representative of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) to distract them. Zeb knocks them down allowing Sabine and Ezra to disguise themselves. They were able to get close with some of the artifacts but were shooed away by Minister Hydan (Malcolm McDowell), the leader of the Jedi Temple operation.

More luck comes their way when someone on Coruscant, the Imperial capital, wishes to speak with Minister Hydan—leaving the rebels with two Death Troopers. Ezra uses the Jedi mind trick for them to enter the Jedi Temple. Meanwhile, Sabin tells Chopper to listen in on Hyden’s conversation. We later find out that Hydan was talking to Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). Hydan informs Palpatine they’ve found art related to the Mortis gods in the roots of the temple. The Emperor was interested in the specific artwork, but Kanan’s death has altered Lothal’s fate. He demands Hydan to breach the Jedi temple to seize power within.

Where’s Ezra?

Knowing the Emperor’s involvement, Hera is nervous to move forward. Despite her allies telling her it only makes the mission more important, it was Kanan’s Force ghost that urges her. Hyden comes back ordering the Imperials to work double time. The floodlights suddenly turn on, and we see the massive paintings of the Mortis Gods. A Trandoshan worker informs Hyen they’ve found more symbols. Hyden once again leaves Sabine and Ezra to examine the artwork. The rebels notice a Convor, an owl-like bird that appeared near Ahsoka on Atollon, and Loth-wolves. Sabine also adds that the positioning of the Father, the Daughter, and Son’s hands mirror those seen in the tablet Ezra received.

Sabine tells Ezra the hands are lined up with the position of the Father and that they must move them to match the Daughter’s place. Then a pair of Stormtroopers arrives taking Sabine away. Alone, Ezra activates the figures on the painting, and the hands start to move he hears the voice of the Daughter (Adrienne Wilkinson). The Loth Wolves also appear with the hands in position. They begin to move in circles, and Ezra realized he finally figured it out. Stormtroopers return to him, but as they run towards Ezra’s position, he disappears into the wall.
“Star Wars Rebels” continues with episode 12, “A World Between Worlds.”
