Expectations are high for Disney after “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” proved to be a massive hit. Now the pressure is on the following spinoffs and where it’ll take fans for an adventure this time. The “Star Wars” anthologies are great in itself because it’s a whole universe is still unexplored. The uncertainty can mean what fans have long waited for though, a spinoff for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Joel Edgerton Wants In On The Obi-Wan Kenobi Spin-off
Sure, the promising Han Solo film is on its way. But after that, it looks like there’s still a question mark left to be answered. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy reveals the next spinoff announcement to be within the month but as for now, there’s still no update. That leaves an opportunity for what fans are voicing out for in the vast “Star Wars” Universe—A Kenobi film.
Additionally, it’s not only fanatics dwelling on this idea. Ewan Mcgregor, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi, sides with fans and expresses interest in returning to the role. This is not only implied once, but multiple times.
Aside from Mcgregor, there’s another person interested in the possible film. “It Comes At Night” star Joel Edgerton is all game to be part of the film too. Edgerton appears as Uncle Owen in “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.” Although that role was still a minor one, as of now Edgerton has earned his share of Hollywood fame. Perhaps there’s a chance Uncle Owen lands a bigger role.
“I like the idea that Uncle Owen is one of those guys who has done some super cool s**t but has just never bragged about it,” Edgerton told the Business Insider. “My idea is that he could go out and have some adventure and then he comes back and slips back into that unassuming moisture farmer role… Everyone talks about Obi-Wan being super cool, Owen secretly knows that he was there, and he did some of the cool s**t, too.”
Edgerton As Boba Fett
Enthusiastically as it sounds, Edgerton isn’t only interested in playing the role of Owen. The actor reveals that aside from farmer Owen, he’s open to playing any character in the Star Wars universe—and that includes Boba Fett!
“I saw Colin [Trevorrow, Episode IX director] yesterday, I was like, ‘Dude. Star Wars. Me.’ And he’s like, ‘You have already been in the Star Wars world,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I could be someone else,’” Edgerton said. “My pitch to all of them is there’s definitely some Owen possibilities, but also, I was only in the movie for a pinch of time. How about I play someone else? I can do Boba Fett. I’ll just never take off the mask.”
With that being said, the image of Edgerton as a bounty hunter will just still be a question. But with Mcgregor and Edgerton both showing interest means there’s still so much to expect in the anthologies. Despite the uncertainty, there’s no denying the unlimited possibilities to look forward to in the Star Wars spinoff adventure.
