Paramount+ is gearing up for the premiere of their next Trek show, Strange New Worlds, and though we know that Captain Pike will be the main character, we now have a look at the Enterprise’s more popular captain, James T. Kirk.
Here’s a look at Paul Wesley as the new Captain Kirk of Strange New Worlds:

We don’t really know what Kirk’s role in Strange New Worlds will be, but it’s likely that we’ll be meeting him in the second season. While fans are waiting for the premiere of Season 1, Deadline reports that the series was given the renewal last January. It’s likely this image of Kirk is from Season 2.
For now, the series is expected to focus on the original Enterprise crew which was led by Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Besides Pike, the series will also see the return of Spock (Ethan Peck) as well Uhura, who is still a cadet as this time. New characters include Rebecca Romijin’s Number One and Christina Chong, who plays La’an Noonien-Singh—a possible relative of Kahn Noonien-Sing who we met in Wrath of Khan.
Star Trek has sure found a resurgence of TV, with several shows like Picard, Lower Decks, and Discovery coming out at the same time. While it may be a while before we get Starfleet back in the big screen, this seems like a nice return to form for the franchise, which has always thrived on television rather than film.
Catch the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+ on May 5.
