Early reactions have been flooding the internet for the final movie for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Far From Home. The movie acts as a follow up to 2017’s Homecoming as well as Avengers: Endgame. Reactions have been great so far and gives fans a glimpse into what the MCU will look like post-endgame.
As is the norm in Hollywood, renowned critics, YouTubers, and certain members of the press are allowed a press screening to see the movie before its official release. The purpose for this is to generate word of mouth hype for the said movie if positive and sometimes, reshoots if the reactions are negative. Spider-Man: Far From Home though, will definitely not need reshoots. Following the reaction embargo being lifted, here’s what critics and media personalities have to say about Spider-Man: Far From Home.
What Critics Think Of Spider-Man: Far From Home
Jim Vejvoda from IGN said the movie was “an extremely fun, cleverly executed, and frequently hilarious culmination of the MCU’s wall-crawler’s journey so far.” Fandango’s Erik Davis called it “funny, exciting, romantic, goofy & follows Homecoming in being this brilliant ground-level look at Spidey’s world & how the events of [Endgame] impacted everyday life.”
Brandon Davis from Comicbook.com gushed with praise for the movie, tweeting “absolute home run. It’s so much fun. It’s huge in itself and for the future of the MCU in the most surprising ways. I can’t wait to see this movie again. And again”. io9’s Germain Lussier complimented the movie following up from Endgame, saying, “Spider-Man: Far From Home made me smile from start to finish. Its got huge reveals and exciting set pieces but the way it builds off Endgame to dive deeper into Peter’s emotions is really what makes it soar.”
Mike Ryan from Uproxx stated that “the movie is very clever (and funny) how it handles the fallout post Endgame in explaining how this world works now.”
Critics have also been full of praise for Jake Gyllenhaal’s portrayal as Mysterio, calling his performance excellent and the choice to cast him in the role a wise one.
Kevin McCarthy took things to a different level by saying Far From Home dethroned Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 as the best Spider-Man movie ever, “Far From Home has dethroned Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 & is now favourite Spider-Man film. What’s insane is that I can’t even tell u why I’m so in love with this film because it would be a spoiler. Gyllenhaal is incredible. Holland re-confirms as the best Spidey to date. Amazing.”
Maude Garrett from Geek Bomb tweeted out “Spider-Man: Far From Home is SUCH a good movie. Jake Gyllenhaal suits up and completely embraces his role in its entirety & he’s clearly having a blast.” She further told fans to make sure to stay behind for the “must watch” post-credits scenes.

My thoughts on SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME:
A movie that starts out good and turns great with every minute that passes — leading to one of the best climaxes of any solo Marvel movie.
Tom Holland is, and will forever be, the greatest Spider-Man ever.

absolutely loved #SpiderManFarFromHome. Captures the spirit of the comics and mixes in some amazing movie magic. The second the film ended I wanted to watch it again. #JakeGyllenhaal is fantastic as Mysterio. pic.twitter.com/4ZYaS0L8mf

I really liked Spider-Man: Far From Home for reasons you can read in my review next week but I’m convinced that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can carry the MCU post-Downey and Evans. Whomever hired him and @jnwtts should get a nice raise!

#SpiderManFarFromHome is the coda we needed after Endgame, a glimpse of how the world looks now that the dust has settled. Could maybe have gone a bit harder on P’s emotional arc, but bursting with warmth and humor and awkward teen romance. 💕 Also: Jake G = perfect casting.

#SpiderManFarFromHome! What a fun, solid sequel. Tom Holland so incredibly charming, will watch him in any/all things. Jake Gyllenhaal gets way more to do than expected, clearly had a ball doing it. Also still loving Zendaya’s MJ.

A reaction tweet: #SpiderManFarFromHome is wonderful. It’s funny and clever and filled with smart twists. (It also made me have incredibly visceral memories of class trips of yore.) I didn’t leave the theater sad! I am not worried about superheroes’ emotional states! Zendaya!!

These reactions will no doubt come as good news for Marvel and Disney, as there were previous worries that fans may be suffering from withdrawal following Endgame. Critics also say the movie is a perfect set up for MCU Phase 4, one thing fans will definitely be eager to see.
Fun fact for nerds out there, since Peter Parker’s introduction to the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man has shown up in at least one MCU movie every year, starting with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019, where Holland pulls a double duty with Endgame and Far From Home.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theatres June 28th.
