We’re still a long way from Spider-Man: Far From Home, but the recent casting news for the film makes the wait a little bit more interesting. Homeland’s Numan Acar has been cast in an unspecified role. Details are unknown, but it was revealed that his character would be named “Dimitri.” If you think this sounds familiar, you’re not wrong. Most Spider-Man comic book fans might remember the name as belonging to a particular villain.
According to Deadline, Acar might be playing Chameleon, one of Spider-Man’s long-time villains. The character’s real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov, a highly-trained spy. Smerdyakov has the ability to impersonate people, and this led Communist countries to employ and train him as a spy (he was also a Hydra operative). Chameleon uses a mixture of costumes and make-up to hide his real identity. His common identifier is a faceless mask that he keeps in his disguise vest.
Acar joins J.B. Smoove, who was announced last week to fill an unspecified lead role, and possibly Jake Gyllenhaal, who is rumored to play the main villain Mysterio. Aside from starring in Spider-man: Far From Home, Acar is also set to play Hakim in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake.
Tom Holland will be back to reprise his role as the web-slinger, as well as Zendaya as M.J., Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Michael Keaton as The Vulture.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is slated for a July 5, 2019 release date.
