Spider-Man: Homecoming Director On Peter Parker Enjoying The Superhero Life

We’re down to just a week before we finally see Tom Holland’s second outing as everybody’s favorite web-slinger in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” this July 7. Holland is the third live-action iteration of the titular character. The actor recently shared about how his take would be different from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield because of Peter Parker’s mindset of not being heavily burdened by his superpowers.

Holland first came out as Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” and it was his youthfulness and wit that made us love him as the new Spidey. With him now being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans cannot help but be more eager to find out how his character will play along in the current MCU timeline.

Spider-Man: having the time of his life with his powers

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” director Jon Watts was asked about the Sony/Marvel collaboration and how Holland differs from that of Maguire and Garfield’s performance as the web-slinger.

The previous Spider-Man actors both dealt with an overwhelming amount of struggle over being a hero—even going as far as going against his “great responsibility.” Holland’s however, is just a kid having the time of his life, especially with the new suit that Tony Stark lent him. Here’s what Watts had to say:

“I felt very strongly about the question about what would happen if you gave a 15-year-old superpowers. I think the answer would be he would have the time of his life. Yes, he would probably stop crime, but have so much fun doing it. We really tried to convey that he’s enjoying his superpowers. More often than not in superhero movies, the powers are a burden to the superhero but in our case, they’re the complete opposite.”

Marketing for “Homecoming” has shown Peter as a kid at heart. He’s clearly having fun with the locals and considers getting a free churro from an old lady pure happiness. There’s so much more heroics in store for the character, as we see that Peter is indeed having the time of his life being a superhero, especially with his new suit. Sure, the Vulture might give him a hard time, his classmates might need saving, and Tony’s Training Wheels Protocol needs to be pushed back at times, but at the end of the day, Peter is loving his job to death.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” hits theaters next week, July 7.
