Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is currently in production for its seventh season, and it will probably be a while before we get an official update. What’s great is, Sophia Nomvete, who plays the Dwarf Princess Disa, has given fans an idea of where the second season’s direction is going to go.
Talking to Deadline’s Contenders TV panel (via @FellowshipFans), Nomvete explains:
“I cannot tell you how excited I am. Because there’s just more of everything. Season 1 was this glorious introduction. We want to know, the world, the culture, how are we bringing this amazing story and this infrastructure to life. And that’s what we see, the peaceful phase, the introductory phase.”
The first season had ended with the tease that the dwarves had discovered Mithril and are now looking to mine more of it, but it was also revealed that they have possibly awakened the Balrog that lives deep in the mountain.
With Moria in ruins by the time we get there in Fellowship of the Ring, I expect a tragic run for the dwarves, including Princess Disa and her husband Durin; then again, even if they lose the mine, it’s still possible that the characters can survive in another place—as the dwarves were known to have done. Even Thorin Oakenshield was able to participate in the battle for Moria before the Balrog was mentioned (or was that something they just made up in the Hobbit movies?)
No release date has been set for The Rings of Power Season 2, but you can catch the complete first season now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
