'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Official Trailer: An In-Depth Analysis

A few weeks from now, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will make its debut in theaters, and its latest official trailer just got released. A new line of characters just got introduced into the movie, and it had its share of revelations on how the events will fall into place. However, the trailer got mixed reactions from the fans, leaving a scene of various opinions.

Before we start giving out major plot points, let’s see what the trailer has in store for us.

“Revenge, Money, or is it something else?”

The “Solo: A Star Wars Story” trailer starts with Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra asking Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo what he is looking for. The next scene shows  Qi’ra greeting Han, commenting that he looks “Good; A little rough around the edges, but good.” Sounds like another way to describe “Scruffy-looking.” They enter a bar of some sorts that kinda brings some Mos Eisley Cantina Vibes and then it immediately transitions to Woody Harrelson’s Tobias Beckett talking about a “job.” Apparently, a big-shot gangster is putting together a crew. Maybe this is where his smuggling career starts; or is he off to a heist of some kind?

“I’m a driver, and I’m a flyer; I waited a long time for a shot like this.”

We don’t see who he is talking to here, but as it turns out, he gets the job. After this, Han and his co-crew members are then shown getting ready; Tobias hands him his blaster. Han and Joonas Suotamo’s Chewbacca then descend from a place that looks like a black market. Han asks Chewie what he thinks, and Han replies with a dismissive “Well, what do you know.” The frame pans out to the three of them (Han, Chewie, and Qi’ra) off to meet “the best smuggler around.” He’s on the job, and he’s ready to go, off to a mission we are yet to discover.

“Everything you heard about me is true.”

We’re all curious as to what Han heard about Lando, but whatever it is, it’s true. Donald Glover’s Lando looks like he is really successful in what he does and is seen enjoying the luxuries brought about by his wealth. What do they need his help for? Will he join them in their “job”? Suddenly, Lando calls out a droid’s name, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “L-3” and the droid asks him about Han and company. It seems like in every movie that comes out there’s a new, lovable droid that is introduced into the saga.

“If you come with us, you’re in this life for good.”

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” would not be complete without showing off Han’s most prized possession: The Millennium Falcon. This part opens with a full shot of the Falcon, a few shots of its interior, and Han’s entrance. Major goosebumps. The Falcon looks like it is in the prime of its years, not some “piece of junk.” Han is then presented with a tough decision to make that will change his life forever. Lando sets the ship into hyperspace, and that is when the fun starts.

“Assume everyone will betray you, and you will never be disappointed.”

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” has its Death Troopers, while “Solo: A Star Wars Story” has Range Troopers, nicknamed “Pimp Troopers” since they’re really overdecorated. Those “Pimp Troopers” look like they pack a punch. I have no idea how they manage to balance on top of that train-thing. Tobias’ advice sounds pretty chilling, but in a world that is controlled by money and power, it all makes sense. There’s a new Wookie? THERE’S A NEW WOOKIE! Who could this be? An old friend? A survivor of the droid attack on the Wookies? Oh, and Han seems to “have a really good feeling about this” as he pilots the Falcon. We then have a glimpse of the space dogfights and Han being surprised that Chewie is 190 years old. Fun fact: Wookies can live up to 400 years old according to Wookiepedia, so to them, 190 isn’t much of a number.

“Push it!”

With the flip of some switches, we transition to the scenes that follow which shows snippets of the various firefights and L-3 exclaiming, “So glad we took this job!” L-3 is probably the type of droid who enjoys danger and adventure. The trailer ends with Chewie holding onto Han as he tries to pull him up. This scene is a reflection of the train scene in Captain America: The First Avenger; we are yet to discover if Chewie becomes the Winter Soldier or not.

What do you guys think about the trailer? Was it good? Are you excited for the movie? Worry not! “Solo: A Star Wars Story” hits theaters on May 25th.
