Director Nicolas Winding Refn has delivered us movies like The Neon Demon and Drive, and now he’s teamed up with Netflix for his trippy-looking series called Copenhagen Cowboy.
Check this out:
Here’s the official description:
Copenhagen Cowboy is a thrill-inducing, neon-drenched noir series set across six episodes which follows enigmatic young heroine, Miu. After a lifetime of servitude and on the verge of a new beginning, she traverses the ominous landscape of Copenhagen’s criminal netherworld. Searching for justice and enacting vengeance, she encounters her nemesis, Rakel, as they embark on an odyssey through the natural and the supernatural. The past ultimately transforms and defines their future, as the two women discover they are not alone, they are many.
While the story description is already pretty vague, I think the real hook with this franchise is definitely its entire feel. The shots and color composition are just fantastic, and if the trailer music is going to be any hint at the show’s actual score, I think a lot of people will be checking out this series.
The rise of shows like Euphoria have opened up the audience into checking out more of these, ‘arthouse’ type movies, and Copenhagen Cowboy definitely sells the same kind of atmosphere. Hopefully Netflix gives us more to look at right before the release. I’m guessing this could come out around the Halloween season, but I could be wrong.
No specific release date has been announced for Copenhagen Cowboy, but we can probably expect the series to premiere on Netflix sometime later this year.
