'SIX' Series Finale 'Danger Close' Recap: Unknown Fates

Picking up immediately after the previous chapter of SIX, the helicopter flies, leaving the remaining SEALs to take cover among the rocks. With one of them injured, mobility becomes quite slow. With the SEALs pinned down, the jihadists continue the assault. As they wait for the seemingly impossible arrival of rescue, the SEALs brace themselves and embrace their end.

In the series finale of SIX, the SEALs successfully eliminate The Prince (Nikolai Nikolaeff). When the SEALs arrive home, the devastation from Armin “Fishbait” Khan’s (Jaylen Moore) injuries leave the team in Shambles. Finally, Lena Graves (Brianne Davis) and Joe “Bear” Graves (Barry Sloane) talk about the future of their relationship. Meanwhile,  Ricky ‘Buddha’ Ortiz and his family discuss the plan to move out to a more comfortable neighborhood.

Never Leave a Brother Behind

It took some time for the SEALs to rescue the wounded Fishbait along with Bear, Alex Caulder (Kyle Schmid) and Trevor Wozniak (Eric Ladin). At first, command decides to send in two choppers for extraction. However, the jihadists target them with a machine gun. Because of this, the helicopters had to fall back. Eventually, Robert Chase III (Edwin Hodge) and Buddha figure out a way to eliminate the machine gunners as well as save the trapped SEALs.

Each of the SEALs says goodbye to Fishbait as the chopper flies away. Agent Gina Cline (Olivia Munn) had to confirm The Prince’s death, so she and the SEALs head to the location of the airstrike. Gina finds him there, lying under a pile of rubble. After a brief dialogue, The Prince suddenly pulls off a grenade’s pin, killing Gina and himself in the blast.

History

Upon their arrival, Andrew Hall (Ken Tremblett) offers a medal for Fishbait’s actions. However, when he learns that Fishbait is a Muslim, he laughs. Offended, the SEALs leave him at the hangar. As the rest of the SEALs went, Joe leads Hall back to his car, insulting him for his insensitive and narrow-minded views. Later that day, Joe and Ricky visit Rip Taggart’s grave.  After paying their respects, Ricky announces that he is leaving their team, taking a new one for himself.

The battle got intense very quickly. The SEALs that were left could do nothing but take cover and run. Also, they had a limited amount of ammunition. It would have been very horrible to see them die in the tunnel, especially since they were huddled close together. However, they had a sigh of relief as Ricky and Robert show up in front of them. This season’s protagonists could have left without incident if Gina decided to shoot The Prince from afar. Instead, she decides to talk to him. However, this scenario provided an excellent dramatic effect on the episode.

History

The entire sequence at the Ortiz Family’s house had me at the edge of my seat. Marissa’s (Katherine Evans) arrival at the scene brought havoc immediately as she shot Lena. When the scene pans out to the outside of the house, Ricky’s wife, Jackie Ortiz (Nadine Velasquez) continually screams. Multiple gunshots fired out before there was an eery silence. Upon Ricky’s arrival, his SEAL instincts kick in as he slowly checked on each room of the house, finding his son, Ricky Ortiz Jr. (Joshua Gage) in the bathroom. While Anabel Ortiz (Jessica Garza) looked for help, Ricky finds his traumatized wife, sitting on the floor with Marissa’s gun in her hands. Fortunately, Jackie managed to shoot Marissa in the head. However, Lena’s untimely death became even more heartbreaking as Joe calls her phone, telling her that he loves her and that he is ready to repair their relationship.

No Closure

Luckily, no more SEALs had to die in their homeland. However, because of the show’s cancellation, the series ends with numerous plot holes. Fishbait is yet to recover, Michael Nasry (Dominic Adams) is still on the loose), and with Lena’s untimely death, Joe would probably lose his mind and go on a rampage, so a possible season 3 could have been in the works when the show got canceled.

SIX Series Final Verdict

SIX

The show accurately represented how tough a SEAL’s life could be, in or out of the battlefield. The actors chosen were the best for their role and played them out expertly, making an alternative cast choice almost impossible. While some episodes had their dull moments, the series, overall, makes an excellent impression to its viewers. It indeed is a shame that SIX was canceled almost as quickly as the second season premiere.
