Another HBO series is set to say goodbye this year. As the network announced on Wednesday, Silicon Valley will be returning to the screen for the sixth and final season. Though it’s set to premiere on October, no official release date has been announced according to TVLine.
A collaboration between showrunners Alec Berg and Mike Judge, the Emmy-award winning Silicon Valley is set to end with seven episodes. The series takes a comedic look at the modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.
Back in 2018, Silicon Valley’s final season was delayed and fans feared it would be delayed as long as 2020. However, HBO reassured that the shift in schedule was to accommodate Berg’s schedule. He was also showrunner of HBO’s Barry. But in May, the network gave its final verdict for the show’s last season.
“Silicon Valley’ has been a career and life highlight for us. We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion.” Judge and Berg said in a report by TheWrap. “We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew, and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”
HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys also had something to say as he had helped develop Silicon Valley while running comedy for HBO. “I love working with Mike and Alec and this cast; a lot of the cast have broken out and gone off to do great things,” he said in an interview with Deadline. “But if you have gotten to 5, 6, 7 seasons, that’s’ great, that’s all gravy/.”
