Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age had come out back in 2002, and that was when we were introduced to the silent antics of Scrat who has been the butt of a running gag where he can’t find a safe place for his acorn. With the Disney/20th Century Studios merger eventually closing Blue Sky, a small team of animators have decided to post this farewell where Scrat finally gets to enjoy his nut.

The short clip also came with this caption: In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot. This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms.
This comes after the release of Ice Age: Scrat Tales on Disney+, a collection of shorts that has the ancient squirrel coping with having a son—who also loves nuts. While it’s certainly possible that we could still see more Ice Age in the future, it’s sad to know that it won’t be coming from the studio that was making the films for more than 20 years.
Disney still seems to be intent on keeping the Ice Age franchise going, but their recent pivot to have Simon Pegg’s Buck Wild as the lead wasn’t really met well by audiences. It’s likely we’ll get an update in the next year or so.
“Ice Age: Scrat Tales” is a series of six all-new animated shorts starring Scrat, the hapless saber-toothed squirrel of the “Ice Age” adventures, who experiences the ups and downs of fatherhood, as he and the adorable, mischievous Baby Scrat, alternately bond with each other and battle for ownership of the highly treasured Acorn.
Ice Age: Scrat Tales is now streaming on Disney+.
