Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac was a manga from Masami Kurumada that ran in the 80s, and the IP had spawned a manga and a revival back in 2019. Now Seiya is getting the live-action treatment with the upcoming movie Knights of the Zodiac.
Check out the official trailer:
Here’s the official description:
Based on the international anime sensation, Knights of the Zodiac brings the Saint Seiya saga to the big screen in live-action for the first time. Seiya (Mackenyu), a headstrong street teen, spends his time fighting for cash while he searches for his abducted sister. When one of his fights unwittingly taps into mystical powers he never knew he had, Seiya finds himself thrust into a world of warring saints, ancient magical training and a reincarnated goddess who needs his protection. If he’s to survive, he will need to embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.
For context, here’s the original anime opening of Saint Seiya:
The movie looks to be really embracing the armor and iconography of the original show, but it seems that they’ve kind of gotten lost when it comes to the very gray coloring that’s been prevalent with the Marvel movies.
I’ll admit, watching the intro, I was kind of expecting something a lot closer to Flash Gordon, but I’m sure there’ll also be a lot to love when it comes to this revival of the franchise.
Knights of the Zodiac comes to theaters on May 12.
