Rupert Grint Thinks a Harry Potter Reboot could Work as a TV Show

With the Harry Potter franchise being more than 20-years-old, there are definitely discussions about rebooting Harry’s story for a new generation of kids. If they do go that direction though, one Potter alum has an idea of how they would approach it.

Talking to GQ Magazine UK, Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint says that a Potter reboot could work as a television show. He says, “I’d love to see ‘Harry Potter’ be adapted into a TV show… I think it would really work. I’m sure the films will get remade, anyway.”

With the Fantastic Beasts franchise kind of fizzling out in the box office, it was said that new WB head David Zaslav was interested in bringing back Harry Potter to the big screen. With Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Grint having moved on from the franchise, some doubt that they would be back for an adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child—which is also kind of critically reviled by fans.

Should they go for a full reboot though, Grint says that he’s pretty much onboard. He continues, “I think there’d be a feeling of passing the baton, letting someone else play Ron. It’s weird because I’m protective over him, I could relate to him so much, and then I was picked to bring him to life. That’s hard to let go. But it would be nice to, as well.”

Personally, the Potter films still hold up pretty well, and their status is kind of like the Millenial version of Star Wars. I don’t think they’ll ever remake Harry’s story, but we might get a reboot sequel in the future a la The Force Awakens.

No future Potter project has been announced recently, but Hogwarts Legacy does launch this Feb. 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
