After Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah had taken over as the lead host of comedy news series The Daily Show. With Noah stepping down after seven years as the host, the series is now looking for someone else to be the face of the show—and they may have already found him.
As per TMZ, Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. is currently being eyed to be Noah’s replacement on the long-running comedy program. Wood had been a part of the series since 2015, and has since become one of the series leading correspondents.
This also lines up great for Wood, seeing that his contract is currently up for renewal. It’s also said that Wood is currently one of the most hotly demanded talents right now, especially after his appearance alongside Jon Hamm in Confess, Fletch.
If anything, Wood is an amazing talent, and though he doesn’t have the same kind of energetic delivery that Trevor Noah has, he does have a sense of humor that offers some light-hearted cynicism that could be perfect for a show that mainly pokes fun at the news—no matter how dire it could be.
For now, it’s said that the process for searching for a new Daily Show host is still in its early stages, so it’s possible that someone else other than Wood could land the gig.
In the meantime, you can check out Wood in Confess, Fletch now screening in theaters.
