Former Roseanne star Roseanne Barr said on the Rabbi Shmuley Boteach Podcast that she would be “staying neutral” about the release of the series’ spinoff The Conners on ABC. Barr said that she would be studying in Israel for a few months by the time of the show’s premiere.
“I have an opportunity to go to Israel for a few months and study with my favorite teachers over there, and that’s where I’m going to go and probably move somewhere there and study with my favorite teachers. I have saved a few pennies, and I’m so lucky that I can go… It’s my great, great joy and privilege to be a Jewish woman,” she said.
Barr also shared that she won’t be giving any comments, negative or positive, about the show. Given her neutral stance, it makes sense to do so since Barr’s forced exit. By staying in the middle ground, the actress said that it wouldn’t fuel her depression and other mental health issues. “I don’t. I can’t. I just stay neutral. That’s what I gotta do. I have some mental health issues of depression and stuff. I got to stay in the middle, or I’ll go dark, and I don’t want to do dark again,” Barr added.
Roseanne was canceled by ABC earlier this year following Barr’s “racist” remarks regarding Former President Barrack Obama and Valerie Jarrett. She has apologized many times since the controversy.
The series spinoff The Conners will feature original cast members Sara Gilbert’s Darlene Conner, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman. It premieres this fall, October 16th on ABC.
