The comic DMZ was published by DC under the Vertigo banner, and with HBO Max taking all the upcoming DC content, we have a new trailer for DMZ starring one Rosario Dawson.
Watch this:
DMZ leaps off the pages of the acclaimed DC graphic novel into the visual landscape of a dangerous and distorted Manhattan as one woman navigates a demilitarized zone in a harrowing quest to find her lost son.
The comic from Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli actually imagines a second civil war within the United States with the US going up against “the Free States”. The main setting is in Manhattan, which has been declared as a demilitarized zone or “DMZ.”
With the destroyed cities and independent armies, you would think that the aesthetic is similar to that of the game Dying Light, in which Dawson also stars in. I guess things are different here, seeing as the threat is just people, as compared to DL which has Dawson taking out zombies.
It’s funny that Dawson should find herself in a DC series, as she had become the unspoken mascot of the Netflix Marvel shows after her recurring role as Claire Temple in Daredevil. She had recently made the jump over to Lucasfilm with her Ahsoka role, but I guess there was enough time to take on this project for HBO Max.
With The Last of Us adaptation coming to HBO, I was actually wondering if the network would be able to pull off an apocalyptic setting, but with the visuals that we’re seeing from the DMZ trailer, it looks like they might just be able to pull it off.
DMZ starts streaming on HBO Max on March 17.
