Though young Luke Skywalker was completely digital in The Book of Boba Fett, Lucasfilm still makes it a point to bring Mark Hamill back to perform the scene as he would. Seeing that it was Star Wars Day, Ahsoka actress Rosario Dawson shares a photo of herself with the two Luke actors, Mark Hamill and Graham Hamilton.

Though Disney does bring Mark Hamill in and make him wear a costume, his performance is eventually just used as the basis for how the scene is put together. His double (Hamilton) re-performs the scenes based on what Hamill did, then his face is completely replaced with a digital version of young Hamill’s. They even have a program to replicate Luke’s voice out of thin air.
I will admit, bringing back Luke Skywalker for the show has been a groundbreaking technical achievement but I’m still in the camp of fans that believe that they should just recast some of the roles. I mean, Luke in TBOBF looks so great, but you can’t really watch his mouth move without it looking weird; and robo-voice makes every line sound wooden. I think it really takes a flesh and blood actor to really convey that emotion and humanity that digi-Luke can’t really portray.
At least that’s my opinion.
We don’t know where else Luke Skywalker would show up, but I think the Ahsoka series with Dawson could be a good guess.
The Book of Boba Fett is now available on Disney+. Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on May 27.
