Rosario Dawson had made headlines when she revealed during a con that Jon Bernthal was returning as the Punisher. Though it may seem like good news for fans, Dawson admits that she may have been misinformed by a fan.
She posted this on her Twitter after her Punisher statement went trending:
I can’t be trusted…!
Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy apparently.
My bad.
I get excited.

While Dawson didn’t have information from an official source, a return for Bernthal’s Punisher isn’t entirely out of the books. After all, Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox were able to reprise their Daredevil roles, and it’s only a matter of time before we get some other Marvel Netflix heroes.
Then again, there’s always the possibility of recasting when it comes to these characters, but Marvel hasn’t done that so far.
Personally, I thought Bernthal was a pretty good Punisher in the Marvel Netflix continuity, even if he didn’t have the comic accuracy of someone like Ray Winstone’s version. He was broody and brutal, and you had to hold your breath whenever a criminal found his way in Frank Castle’s path.
As for Dawson, she did kind of become Marvel Netflix’s Stan Lee, appearing in every show from Daredevil to Iron Fist. She didn’t make an appearance in The Punisher, but it would be great if they found a way to include her. I mean, I don’t expect Rachel McAdams to take over the Night Nurse role moving forward in the canon.
We don’t know when Dawson herself returns to the MCU, but she’s set to star in her own Ahsoka series on Disney+ sometime soon.
