Robert Pattinson was essentially lost to the indie scene after his Twilight run, but he eventually came back to the big blockbuster films with The Batman. As it turns out, Pattinson actually had a bunch of franchises he had his eye on, and it was Planet of the Apes that actually got him interested in working with director Matt Reeves.
Talking to Variety, Pattinson explains, “I love those Apes movies so much… I saw both of the Apes movies in the cinema and I just thought what he could do with mo-cap was just so unbelievable. If he could do that with a monkey’s face, then he can get a performance out of me as well.”
While Pattinson didn’t get to work on Apes, he did get to work with director Matt Reeves. Let’s also not forget that Andy Serkis, who plays the new Alfred, is also the lead ape Caesar in the new POTA films.
Besides the Apes movies, Pattinson also said that he had his eye on Dune. He specifically says, “There’s only been two movies — well, three now — where I wanted to do a sequel: the Apes movies, Sicario, and Dune.” With Denis Villeneuve set to start shooting the Dune sequel this summer, maybe there’s enough time to negotiate Robert Pattinson as Feyd-Rautha of the Harkonnens? We know that Pattinson is a huge box office draw already, and he already played against Timothee Chalamet in Netflix’s The King. After the success of Batman, who wouldn’t want to see Pattinson in the Dune sequel?
We don’t know if Pattinson will be in Dune, but in the meantime, you can catch him in The Batman now in theaters.
