Robert Kirkman's 'Oblivion Song' Comic is Hitting the Big Screen

The Walking Dead‘ Creator Robert Kirkman moves forward with Oblivion Song, a 12-Issue Sci-Fi Comic Series, getting a movie from Universal Pictures and Skybound Entertainment. Earlier last year, Kirkman announced the newest addition to his comic book lineup, Oblivion Song. Now, TheWrap reports that Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment partners with Universal Pictures for Oblivion Song‘s movie adaptation.

Universal released a description:

“Oblivion Song” takes place a decade after 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government has made every attempt to recover them, but after many years they give up. But Nathan Cole won’t. Cole makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those lost, alone and afraid, living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe he is actually looking for something else? Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?

Oblivion Song Background Info

The comic series, published under Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment, released its first issue in March of last year. The succeeding comics followed in September 2018, while the other half of the series hits stores in May 2019. Sean Mackiewicz is the editor, Annalisa Leoni is the colorist, while Rus Wooton is the letterer.

Oblivion Song‘s film team includes Sean O’Keefe, scriptwriter for ‘Wonderland.’ He is represented by ICM Partners, Symbonic and Goodman Schenkman & Brecheen, LLP. Skybound’s side, on the other hand, includes Kirkman as well as Producers David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst. On behalf of the studio, Jon Mone, Universal’s executive vice president, and director of development Lexi Barta will oversee the entire project.

Oblivion Song presents a different narrative to longtime Kirkman fans. The comic book story itself took years to create, according to an interview with him by The Hollywood Reporter. Kirkman, a gifted storyteller, often playing with the idea of the apocalypse in different ways. Fans are in for a treat as he partners with Universal to create Oblivion Song‘s Sci-Fi movie drama.
