Robert Downey Jr. had officially left the MCU when Tony Stark sacrificed himself by the end of Avengers: Endgame, but just like Hugh Jackman with Deadpool 3, it looks like he could be in talks for a Tony Stark return.
As per @MyTimeToShineH on Twitter, RDJ is currently in talks to appear in the second to the next Avengers movie Secret Wars and the incoming series Armor Wars coming to Disney+. Here’s the post:
RDJ is back baby (for Secret Wars for sure, and there's been some talks for a cameo in Armor Wars)

Take note, this is just a rumor for now, but with the possibilities of the Multiverse and rumors surrounding Secret Wars, an appearance from RDJ’s Tony Stark (even just a variant from another timeline) makes perfect sense.
Admittedly, the nostalgia-lover in me would love to see one more Iron Man appearance, but I’m hoping that Marvel uses the cameo sparingly, unlike the recent Star Wars projects which kind of just expect audiences to cheer for a character appearing without them actually doing anything.
For Armor Wars though, I think Tony Stark could have an important overarching role, seeing as he did invent the Iron Man tech, and a lot of people may want in on that. Besides the appearance of Don Cheadle who is said to be the lead of the series, I am hoping that they also bring back Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer who was one of the best elements of Iron Man 2.
Nothing official has been confirmed about RDJ’s return, but Armor Wars is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023 or 2024.
