Prepare for an even longer run for “Riverdale” Season 2 as the premiere has just wrapped, with a total of 22 episodes for the upcoming season. The show managed to become a nice murder mystery series based on the original Archie comic books. The original light-hearted theme of the comics is notably absent in the series, making it a unique version of the beloved comic book series.
“Riverdale” has done extremely well for its first season. It was ranked sixth out of The CW’s 16 scripted series, a couple of spots ahead “Jane The Virgin” and “The 100.” The show is also among the high-profile DC Comics shows like “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Arrow” as the network’s top-rated shows.
Riverdale To Have 22 Episodes For Second Season
Archie Comics announced in a tweet that the second season of “Riverdale” will be longer, with a total of 22 episodes, as compared to season one’s 13-episode count. A lot has happened within those 13 episodes; but with a longer run for the upcoming season, we can expect a whole lot more than just mystery and murder, but also a little bit of the supernatural.

KJ Apa, who plays Archie Andrews in the show, also confirmed in an Instagram post that “Riverdale” has just finished filming the first episode of season two. He’s seen posing with director Rob Seidenglanz, with nothing much but a bandaged hand, possibly hinting that season two will be more violent than the comic book source. Check out the photo below:
Previous teases about “Riverdale’s” second season include a “new looming threat” which may or may not be Veronica’s dad, Hiram Lodge. A series of episode titles also reveals that the show is leaning towards a horror/thriller direction.
“Riverdale” Season 2 premieres Wednesday, October 11 on The CW.
