Rihanna has signed a new global publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing which covers the pop superstar’s entire catalog and will include future works according to Variety. With the new deal in place, Rihanna’s works will be joining Sony/ATV’s hefty collection of music copyrights such as the hits of the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and Sia. It also reunites Rihanna with her long-time publisher Jon Platt.
Platt used to run Rihanna’s previous publishing company Warner/Chappell from 2015 to 2018. Soon after, he took over as the chairman/CEO of Sony/ ATV in April 2019. In addition to Rihanna, Platt also closely worked with other superstars such as Jay-Z and Beyonce.
“I’m proud to have known Rihanna since the beginning of her career,” Platt said in his announcement of the news. “Music, fashion, philanthropy and a heart of gold have solidified Rihanna’s position as one of the biggest icons in the world. It is an honor to be reunited with her at Sony/ATV.”
Setting Up the Tracks for Rihanna’s New Album
Although the announcement didn’t include any mention of Rihanna’s next album, the deal in itself raised speculation that the popstar’s new album might be well on its way. According to Variety, shortly after the release of her Anti album in 2016, Rihanna has since started working on two albums. One of them is reportedly a dancehall release while the other will involve pop, R&B, a bit of reggae.
Apart from her music, Rihanna has also been busy with expanding her entertainment career and philanthropic word. In 2017, she launched her very own cosmetic line Fenty beauty and her inclusive lingerie line Savage x Fenty. Rihanna also starred in a couple of movies such as Ocean’s 8 and Guava Island. In 2018, Rihanna also touched on tourism as the Barbados government appointed her to an ambassador like position to encourage tourism.
More recently, the singer held the second-ever New York Fashion Week featuring her Savage X Fenty lingerie line. According to Billboard, the event drew $50 million fresh funding. Rihanna capped it all off with her fifth annual Diamond Ball which benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation. This foundation supports education and health and emergency response programs all over the world. Next up on the singer’s schedule is to launch her Fenty luxury fashion label collaboration with French luxury giant LVMH. All this on top of her illustrious music career which has garnered her countless awards has led Forbes to name Rihanna the world’s richest female musician in June.
