Avatar: The Way of Water is set to come out next week, and everyone is getting hyped for James Cameron’s return to the big screen. Just in, we have a new featurette giving us another look at Pandora, with several cast members talking about their return to the film.

Besides the fact that the film essentially pushes the VFX forward by a decade, we also get some confirmation on some characters. Though Stephen Lang is playing an avatar version of Quaritch in the sequel, we know that Sigourney Weaver is not playing Grace, but rather her daughter, Kiri.
According to the lore, Kiri is Jake and Neytiri’s adopted daughter, and her biological mother is Grace—born from her avatar body. If anything, Kiri is not like the normal Na’vi, and she has human features, like eyebrows and five fingers.
I’m actually curious how Grace’s avatar body conceived a child after her death, but I think it would have something to do with Eywa spirit magic. Maybe that’s why they had to keep the body incubated even after Grace died in the first film.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Avatar: The Way of Water swims into theaters on Dec. 16.
