Apple sure is making a huge step in the realm of TV entertainment. The tech giant has just acquired an untitled morning show drama based on Brian Stelter’s “Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV” book. Jennifer Aniston is set to make her return on TV as she is set to star in the show along with her “Friends” co-star Reese Witherspoon.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Apple made a straight-to-series order of the drama and is set to focus on the story of how the Morning Show hosts live their lives as well as exploring the unique challenges that these men and women face every waking day. Stelter’s book was previously picked up by Lifetime as a TV movie but has now moved to Apple to provide the narrative of the show additional background.
Aniston and Witherspoon are set to be the leads of the show and will also executive produce and co-own it with Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res company. The company will also produce the show for Apple. The show comes from a television screenplay by “House of Cards'” Jay Carson (also executive producing), who will also serve as showrunner. A 2-season, 20-episode order has also been made for the upcoming Apple series.
Not much is known about the show as far as plot and casting are concerned, but it sure is a bold step for the tech company’s original content ambitions. The upcoming series also joins Steven Spielberg’s “Amazing Stories” anthology series on Apple.
