Record of Ragnarok Season 1 Episode 7 Recap - Expelled from Paradise

Godly Fist

Ares recalls what he saw on that day. The god of war is a professional fighter, and he could fight against the best of them. But Zeus’ Meteor Jab and Divine Axe couldn’t have been seen by a mere mortal. On top of this, he couldn’t see the last punch his father had thrown. The next thing he knew, Zeus’ head was rearing from Adam’s punch.

Zeus has crumpled to the ground, to the surprise of the gods and Heimdall. Ares couldn’t even see the secret attack. Hermes says the human copied Zeus even earlier than before and dodged the punch with just a small margin.

Ares can’t believe Hermes could see it—his pride breaks. He realizes that even if he trained a thousand years, he can’t defeat Adam.

Heimdall announces the very first upset and miracle across the cosmos.

Göll doesn’t understand how Adam could beat the original god, but Brünnhilde explains his hatred for the gods is what enabled him to do so.

Trial

In the beginning, Adam lived in the garden of Eden along with animals without a care in the world—until that fateful day.

Eve was on trial before the gods. She told them she never touched the forbidden fruit. The serpent was at the prosecutor’s stand, incriminating her.

But what really happened was: the serpent tried to force himself to Eve, but he was rejected. As revenge, he ate the apple himself and accused Eve of doing it.

Eve was found guilty in court—none of the gods could ever be accused of such a crime. The serpent’s vile plan succeeded.

A guard appeared in the courtroom and suddenly fell. Adam came in, carrying a basket of apples in both hands. He ate one in front of them then spat it out. He did this repeatedly until the floor was filled with bitten apples and sour spit.

Banishment

He then took Eve’s hand. If she leaves, then he’ll leave too.

The jealous serpent started a fight, but he was utterly defeated and killed.

Adam took Eve’s hand and led her to their own paradise; they descended to earth.

Back in the arena, the revenge is complete. Eve appears in the crowd to cheer for Adam. Brünnhilde celebrates the old man’s defeat. It’s the best way for mankind to avenge the gods.

Heimdall is about to announce the winner, but Zeus stops him. The old god still stands.

Zeus asks Adam why there is no sense of hatred in his eyes, so he asks him his real reason for fighting the gods. Adam’s reply is nonchalant. He is not fighting for revenge or hatred.

Humanity

He is simply protecting his children. There is no more obvious reason.

Everyone is speechless. All of humanity weeps at Adam’s words. As a result, they all come together to pray for one thing: Adam’s victory.

An exasperated Zeus admits he is impressed. He braces himself for a grotesque transformation—Zeus’ body trembles.

Beside Odin, Loki gasps; this is the first time he’ll see Zeus’ real form in a long time.

Zeus is writhing in pain as his body compresses and twists in itself. His sweat steams into a cloud, revealing a lean-looking monstrosity with long arms and legs. The god smiles with an uncanny expression on his face.

Our Thoughts

This anime keeps getting deeper and crazier. Adam’s sentiment is touching, but I was hoping we’d see more from the perspective of Zeus. And what’s this new form? It doesn’t seem canon in mythology at all. Perhaps we’ll see in the next one. I rate this 3/5.
