First Defeat
The humans all fall quiet. Lü Bu’s friends feel bittersweet at his defeat. Their warrior smiled even in his last moment. They all share a drink and offer it to their fallen hero.
On the other hand, the gods are smug, yelling insults at the humans for having no match against them. Brünnhilde doesn’t utter a word. She leaves.
Thor stands over his foe when Heimdall asks him to leave the arena. He notices the god still feels depressed despite his win. Red Hare neighs behind them, the steed is crying along with Lü Bu’s army. They all charge towards Thor, eager to join their lord in death.
Shattered Souls
Heimdall asks them to stop, but Thor is happy to oblige. He offers the gesture to his friend Lü Bu as he swings his hammer to the army. They all die, but with smiling faces, their souls shattering into the air.
These shattered souls cannot return, completely disappearing in Niflheimr. When Göll learns this, she sees the true gravity of the situation. She can’t believe how Brünnhilde seems to be calm when it’s the last she’ll ever see of Randgriz.
Brünnhilde explains the fate of mankind is in this fight. They have to make sacrifices to be god slayers. She leaves Göll crying.
First Man
The Valkyrie checks her list of candidates. She selects a fighter labeled File No.00000000001, someone who can spite the gods.
The arena is restored quickly by the power of the gods. The spectators are hyped. Heimdall announces the start of the second bout; he calls the human fighter in. A trapdoor opens from the ground; a huge pillar rises. The man sitting on top seems naked.
Shortly after, various animals enter the arena.
The naked man jumps from the pillar to the ground. The human audience can’t believe it—he’s the first man charged with original sin, who despises the gods more than anyone of all eternity. He is the father of mankind: Adam—a bare-knuckle fighter wearing nothing but a leaf. He plucks an apple from the air and munches on it.
The gods can’t believe it. He’s a wimp compared to Lü Bu, they say.
GFOC
Heimdall announces the next fighter, but no one appears. Heimdall gets a call—the order has changed.
“Air on a G String” plays in the arena, making even its composer cry. It’s Hermes making his way in. He’s not the fighter, though; it’s the man behind him—Zeus.
The Valkyries are stunned. Zeus, for the second bout? The old man looks frail. He asks Hermes to change the song. An orchestra of violins appears behind him, and the song switches to “Great Massacre on the G Battlefield.” Somehow, the violins are playing a rock song with distorted riffs and pounding drums.
If Adam is the father of humanity, Zeus is the father of the gods; the father of the universe—The God Father of the Cosmos: GFOC! The crowd chants as Zeus flexes his skinny arms, and Hermes’ rock orchestra comes to a climactic burst.
Titan Slayer
“GFOC! GFOC!” They yell as Zeus performs a lame dance.
The humans hate it. Brünnhilde is speechless.
But then the dance changes. As Zeus lies on the floor, every muscle of his body grows larger. Zeus transforms into a massive brute, the very same who killed his father, Cronus.
Brünnhilde’s plans are destroyed; they never expected Zeus to fight in the second bout. A firework display ensues.
Adam stares at it with droopy eyes, looking unimpressed.
Our Thoughts
I don’t hate this episode, but I’m not excited about it either. I guess it’s a “wait and see.” So what can Adam offer in this fight than any other humans can’t? I rate this 3/5.
