'Mission: Impossible's' Rebecca Ferguson In Talks To Join Timothee Chalamet In 'Dune' Reboot

After reprising her role as Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Rebecca Ferguson is now in talks to co-star in Legendary’s Dune. According to Deadline, she will be joining Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy) in the Frank Herbert novel adaptation to be directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Dunepublished back in 1984—is set far in the future in a planet called Arrakis AKA Dune. It centers on the story of Paul Atreides and his noble family’s attempt to reign over Dune and its main export, the drug Melange. It is the most valuable commodity in the entire galaxy because of its life-extending properties and the heightened consciousness it gives its users. And it is only found in Dune. However, Paul’s family falls when a galactic emperor betrays them.

Chalamet will be taking on the role of Paul who escapes into the desert and joins the nomadic tribes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ferguson will be playing Paul’s mother, Lady Jessica. Ferguson also starred alongside Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman as the Swedish Songbird Jenny Lind. She is set to star as Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the Stephen King-based horror The Shining. And she has also landed a role in the next installment for Men In Black and Joe Cornish’s The Kid Who Would Be King.

The Dune novel was first brought to the screen in 1984 under David Lynch’s direction starring Twin Peak’s Kyle MacLachlan. And in 2016, Legendary went ahead to obtain film and TV rights for the novels. According to THR, author Brian Herbert will join the executive producing team with Thomas Tull, Kim Herbert, and Byron Merritt. Herbert’s co-author in the Dune prequel series Kevin J. Anderson will also be working as a creative consultant.
