Just in time to celebrate International Women’s day, Lily Collins releases her empowering new book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me. The book speaks about Lily’s personal experiences and reflections on what makes her as she is. It’s as if seeing her for the first time; a girl stripped off of labels and titles- simply Lily.

In one of her entries, she writes about the one thing she is most known for: the Lily Collins brows. She says that its thickness and shape used to weigh her confidence down. She writes, “It took me a while to fully embrace how prominent and unique they are. But once I did, I never went back.” Thank goodness she didn’t!
Internet trolls would always throw negative comments at her and have the nerve to advise her to wax them off. Who does that to the Lily Collins brows?
Nonetheless, the graceful as ever Snow White let the comments go with a laugh and a quick roll of the eyes. “My brows have become a characteristic that defines me. Rather than a characteristic that defines how I feel. They’re part of who I am and that’s exactly the point… It makes me, me.”
Just like that, the Mortal Instruments actress has taught the crowd to cherish themselves and what she calls ‘quirks.’ According to Lily Collins, quirks are what she calls trademarks that are unique to every person.
“All that quirks that define us are special things that should be embraced, never pushed away.” she says in her book.
The actress also wrote shared life experiences in her book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me. There are entries about moments that will make you do a facepalm. There are also entries that are are plain silly it makes you giggle.
Lily Collins’ letter to dad Phil Collins
In one of the pages of the book, there’s a section that headlines A Letter to All Dads. In this section of the book, Lily Collins writes to readers saying “feel free to read this letter to your dad or use it as a guide to write your own.” Safety warning: Make sure Kleenex is with you on this. Just in case.
Here, the actress writes to her father saying: “I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected.” In her conclusion, she writes a heartbreaking not to the father who abandoned her: “I forgive the mistakes you made.”
When Lily Collins was five years old, her father divorced her mother Jill Tavelman for the Swiss translator Orianne Cevey as reported by The Mirror. In her book, Lily also confesses that all her insecurities and relationship issues stemmed from her parents’ divorce and her father’s eventual absence.
Lily Collins Book: What Lily wants to say
According to this Snow White, all she wants is to motivate people. Inspiring women particularly, is the goal she is aiming at. In her book she mentions the source of her passion for acting– and that is sharing the happiness with other people and making them relate and feel comfort.
She teaches her readers things like comparing yourself with others and the media will only lead to self-destruction. And this truth is so much relevant to young women today.
Self-acceptance, empowerment, and openness are the messages Lily Collins wants to preach– trivial as they are, these things matter to a lot of people today. So to Lily Collins, go at it girl!
