I screamed. I cheered. I cried. I was a ball of tension for the entire 82 minutes. After the Battle of Winterfell, I felt like I’d been beaten up a little bit. I was spent and emotionally raw, but also incredibly satisfied.
Game of Thrones Season 8 episode 3 was titled “The Long Night.” Here are some of the best moments. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Best Quotes from Game of Thrones S8E3
Sansa: “I don’t know how to use it.”
Arya: “Stick ’em with the pointy end.”
Sansa: “None of us can do anything. That’s the truth. That’s the most heroic thing we can do now: look the truth in the face.”
Tyrion: “Maybe we should have stayed married.”
Sansa: “You were the best of them.”
Tyrion: “What a terrifying thought.”
Melisandre: “What do we say to the God of Death?”
Arya: “Not today.”
Bran: “Theon, you’re a good man. Thank you.”
Who died in Episode 3?
There were six major deaths in Game of Thrones S8E3. We also mourn thousands of Dothraki and Unsullied who perished in the Battle of Winterfell.
Every death in the episode was heroic and beautiful.
The first death was Eddison as he saves Samwell Tarly. It was bittersweet.
The next death is Lyanna Mormont. What an awesome scene! She is tossed around by a Giant white walker, then picked up by her throat. Her final, heroic act was to stab the Giant in the eye and destroy him.
Beric uses his ninth life to save Arya and the Hound. He was stabbed 5 or 6 times and he just kept on coming! But, alas, this was his final call. “The Lord of Light brought him back for a purpose,” says the Red Woman. “That purpose has now been served.” (I cheered here because it was becoming apparent how important Arya is to this whole prophecy thing!)
Jorah Mormont is next to die. He stands strong to protect Daenerys against tons of wights. But he takes a beating and is stabbed several times. He dies in Dany’s arms.
Melisandra, aka The Red Woman, magically reappears, then dies in this episode. She brings the fire and is a key player in making sure Arya fulfills her destiny… which now seems could be Savior of the Seven Kingdoms?
Finally, Theon dies. After valiantly protecting Bran against the wights, Theon’s last stand is to charge the Night King. But not before Bran tells him he’s a “good man.” I was a mess over this scene since we’ve gone through so many emotions with Theon!
I had predicted that Brienne would die in the Battle of Winterfell. Given her emotional moment being knighted in episode 2, I thought she was a goner. I’m so happy she’s lived to die another day!
