The last Predator movie may not have done so hot in the box office, so 20th Century Studios has decided to play it safe with the release of Prey on Hulu. The movie promises to give us a huge twist on the predator franchise, and we have a new look at the film’s take on the universe’s deadliest hunter.

Since this story takes place hundreds of years before the events of the original Predator it makes sense that they come with a different, more primitive look for this film. Some fans have actually pointed out that the design kind of resembles the original look for the creature—back when Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to play him.

We don’t know much about this version of the Predator yet, but it does come with slightly thinner dreadlocks. My guess is that its weapons will also be more primitive, but if the time-travel theories are to be believed, these guys could come packed with some advanced weaponry as well.
I have to say, it’s a pretty unique take on the franchise, and I am kind of bummed that the film ended up going straight to streaming. Who knows, maybe with enough hype, we can get a theatrical release, but for now, it looks like 20th Century Studios just wants to see if the film can gather enough hype to bring people back to cinemas.
Here’s the movie synopsis:
The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.
Prey comes to Hulu this Aug. 5.
