“Polaroid,” A new horror project from The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films has just been given its very first teaser trailer. It also features Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom) as (presumably) the first victim in the movie.
Killer Camera Wreaks Havoc in ‘Polaroid’
“Polaroid” draws references to recent horror hits like “Lights Out” and 2014’s “Oculus.” It’s based on the 2015 original short film by Lars Klevberg, who is also the director of this full-length version. “Polaroid” follows the story of six teenagers who discover an old polaroid camera. However, the camera is not just a normal find, as the pictures that it produces marks the death of anyone in the photo. One by one, the teens do everything they can to stop the grisly deaths from happening.
‘Polaroid’ Trailer Breakdown
There’s a slight similarity to 2016’s “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” and R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps” book called “Say Cheese and Die!” with a touch of it’s own horrific spin. A creature is shown to be stalking the characters as their pictures are taken.
The trailer has all the elements of a horror movie: shaky camera movements, jump scares, a brooding dialogue about the camera’s origins, and creepy background music mashed up with horrific footage in the movie. It would definitely take more than this teaser to sell it to a devoted audience, what with the movie being classified as your typical horror film. A rating for the movie is also yet to be announced.
The cast features a relatively fresh breed of talents, including Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Kathryn Prescott (24: Legacy, Skins), and “American Idol” season 9 contestant Katie Stevens. Horror film-mainstay Javier Botet (Mama abd The Crooked Man from The Conjuring 2) is also set to play the film’s creature slayer. Botet is also set to reprise his Crooked Man role for its own spinoff.
“Polaroid” hits theaters on August 25th. Watch the trailer below:
