The story of Po the Panda has pretty much been concluded with the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, but Dreamworks is set to bring him in for one more adventure with Kung Fu Panda 4.
As it turns out, the plot for the fourth Kung Fu Panda film has been revealed, and it will have Po looking for his successor as the Dragon Warrior. This comes from @CCNCartoonNews:
Mike Mitchell is directing ‘KUNG FU PANDA 4’.
The film follows Po as he must leave the Valley of Peace and go to the big city. He then comes face-to-face with his biggest threat yet, The Chameleon. It includes Po trying to find a new replacement for the role of Dragon Warrior.… pic.twitter.com/Sk4AsNuniN

It’s worth noting that director Mike Mitchell has worked on animated films like Trolls, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and Shrek Forever After. I guess I wasn’t a biggest fan of Shrek 4, but Trolls was definitely a solid film, and I also liked the direction he went with The Lego Movie sequel.
With the first Kung Fu Panda film being 15-years-old, I am interested to see just how much the character of Po can evolve, especially since he’s been the Dragon Warrior for quite some time. While I’m expecting a Last Jedi arc for a character like Po, I’m hoping that the internet doesn’t go through another culture war just because the film decided to age up the character’s mythos.
Then again, I am curious on the character who Po will pick as his successor. Will it be another Panda? Will the franchise still even be called Kung Fu Panda if Po isn’t the lead? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Dreamworks has up their sleeves.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is set to come out on March 8, 2024.
