From the executive producer of Russian Doll and Girls comes a new series about a young woman just trying to survive early adulthood. Freeform and Hulu have just dropped a new trailer for Single Drunk Female starring Sofia Black-D’Elia and Ally Sheedy.
Check it out:
Here’s the series logline (via Deadline):
After a public flame-out at a New York media company, 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink (Black-D’Elia) is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol (Sheedy). Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all of the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend, who is now dating her ex, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.
With shows tackling alcoholism and addiction usually leaning on the more serious side of things (e.g. Euphoria), it looks like Single Drunk Female is going to be attempting a more comical approach when it comes to the road to sobriety.
Black-D’Elia’s Samantha Fink looks to be a 20-something struggling lady that you would love to root for, and it’s downright silly that all the reasons that made her drink are just coming back to her life. It also doesn’t help that her mother is Allison from The Breakfast Club—one of the most oddly chaotic female characters ever put to screen.
Single Drunk Female premieres on Freeform and will also be available on Hulu come Jan. 20.
